PS5 or Xbox Series? This is a question that many gamers will ask themselves! I offer you my comparison and my opinion between the 2 next consoles from Sony and Microsoft
PS5 or Xbox Series X? And yes it won't be easy at the end of the year to have to choose between the Playstation 5 and the Xbox Series X! In this article I offer you a short, clear and impartial comparison, now that Sony has finally unveiled its PS5!
The power of the console
I'm not going to say anything like our dear video game influencers who "make a living from their passion" (as well as the JV press). I'm not going to beat around the bush, the Xbox Series X is clearly (well) above it, in terms of raw power for graphics. It’s dishonest and completely false for the JV press and influencers to say that the PS5 is as powerful as the Xbox Series X.
It's not the super SSD of the death of the PS5 that will allow the latter to offer more beautiful games, that's completely false. A storage drive doesn't work miracles when it comes to graphics eh…
When the PS5 offers games in 4K resolution (or less) we will have to be content, as always, with a game speed of 30 FPS. The Xbox Series The digital foundry comparisons will be clear, the Xbox Series X will be much more powerful.
The price of the console (M.A.J)
For now, Microsoft should not repeat the mistake of a more expensive video game console. The Xbox Series X will surely be the same price as the future PS5. But Sony was smart (as always). They will also offer a fully digital PS5 (without optical disc), this digital version will therefore have a lower price. We'll have to see what Microsoft offers with its Xbox Series range…
UPDATE: The Xbox Series X is priced at €499 just like the standard PS5! A less powerful XBox Series S without optical drive is offered at €299 and a PS5 digital edition is also available at €399. In short, Xbox and Playstation are on par with their new standard console at €499. Personally, I do not recommend digital versions because without an optical drive, goodbye to second-hand games and promotional games...
The day-one games catalog
At XBox we will have no doubt for the launch of the XBox Series X, Halo Infinite and a new episode of Forza Motorsport. We must hope for other surprises (see the Xbox show in July 2020), because for the moment an FPS and a car game is a bit limited.
For the PS5 it’s more balanced. We will have a Gran Turismo 7, a Ratchet and Clank, Spiderman Miles Morales Kena and other exclusives. The catalog will offer a car game, a platform game, an action adventure game and an original novelty (kena). The PS5 currently has the advantage in the launch catalog.
UPDATE: Bad news, Halo Infinite is delayed for a vague 2021! PS5 games at €80 are also bad news! On the other hand, the big announcement that broke the Internet, Xbox bought Zenimax including Bethesda, ID Software, Arkane Studios! Clearly Xbox is getting back into the game ^^ And it may not be over yet in terms of studio buyouts :p
Backwards compatibility
The XBox Series X has the advantage, I'll get straight to the point. The entire XBox One catalog will be backwards compatible (as well as the controllers). The XBox 360 and Xbox Original backward compatibility program will also be there. To top it all off, the games will run much better on XBox Series X!
At Sony it’s still unclear. The PS5 is supposed to be backwards compatible with the 100 most popular games from the PS4. Other people indicate that the entire PS4 catalog will work but nothing is confirmed yet. Sony has really remained vague on this functionality, which is frankly not reassuring.
The design of the console
Well, it's more a matter of taste. For me, the Xbox Series X is more discreet and more sober. It will fit more in my living room, the very large PS5 risks taking up a lot of space, in addition to its particular design…
Quality game production
Microsoft which purchased 15 development studios (M.A.J XBox now has 23 studios!), intends to provide regularlythe Xbox Seriesin new video games. The objective is to fill the gaps in the Xbox One catalog which, as a reminder, was sorely lacking in strong games like RPGs (M.A.J hello to the takeover of Bethesda with the next Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI) or action/adventure games.
Playstation, for its part, enjoys unprecedented popularity with the production of strong games like Uncharted, The Last Of Us, God Of War, Spiderman, Horizon Zero Dawn, and many others. As much to be honest, the PS4 benefited from extraordinary “solo” video games when the Xbox One was content with multi-coop games (sea of thieves, state of decay…) it’s nice but as a friend would say, “solo” games are important too :)
For the moment I have more confidence in the production of PS5 games, but Xbox can create a surprise with its new studios!
The popularity of the console
Here too I am not going to beat around the bush,la PS5enjoys much greater popularity than the Xbox Series X. Just look at the number of views on YouTube… Xbox has everything to prove to become more trendy among gamers. I think Phil Spencer can succeed in making his next Xbox Series X popular. I hope he succeeds, because competition is good for players!

If you are looking for a graphically powerful video game console, you will have to look at the Xbox Series X, it will be technically superior to the PS5, that's obvious. It will be the same thing for backwards compatibility, the Xbox Series
On the other hand, for the catalog of day-one and future games, the PS5 seems more reassuring. Sony regularly produces very good “single player” games where XBox was behind with the Xbox One game catalog. Things will likely change with the new Xbox Game Studio… What is certain is that for the moment the PS5 is more popular with gamers!
Update: Xbox with the Acquisition of Zenimax including Bethesda then with the arrival of the E.A Play catalog, Xbox Game Pass will become the must have for video game subscriptions! Let's see what Sony will offer with the Xbox buyout wave!
